History Of AIMLTA

In World War - there was a great demand for Medical laboratory Technologists to carry out the laboratory work. The training school established in 1922 at the University of Minnesota and later on many such training institutions were established. Many new instruments were also been invented for laboratory work and techniques were developed rapidly.

After the Second World War, its necessity became more essential in Medical Science, the World Health Organisation(WHO) established in most of the parts of the world to guide the Government.

The British rule in India was over in 1947 and India achieved Independence. After Independence the Hospitals and Medical Colleges were without any technically trained Laboratory Technologists. The lower categories of untrained Para-Medical staffs were employed in this technical line to carry out the work of hospitals and Medical colleges. The Armed Forces Medical College, Pune was the only college where few trained Laboratory Technologists and assistants were found suitable for laboratory work. There were more and more demands for trained Laboratory Technologists from the various parts of India and necessity for trained staffs realized by the Hospitals and Medical Colleges. With the help of W.H.O. the Govt. of India started Laboratory Training programmes, the State Governments also introduced the similar programmes in the year 1957.

A body of Medical Laboratory Technologists came in to existence in the state of West Bengal in the year 1970-71 and developed to National Body as All India Medical Laboratory Technologists Association (AIMLTA) and registered under Societies Regitration Act XXI 1860 of New Delhi in the year 1981, bearing the Registration No S/12081. The Association has assumed national character and constituted State Chapter in almost all the state and union territory of the country. AIMLTA is the only "Apex Body" of Medical Laboratory Technologists of India which is working its best to promote Medical Laboratory Technology and the profession in the best interest of the Technologists of India.
